Why integration hurts
This is a placeholder for a blog about the challenges of integration. The discussion will highlight one aspect of this web site, in which competing goals are potentially irreconcilable, and so something 'has to give'.
Internet Explorer is the predominate browser used to surf the internet. There are many standards which such browsers must support, but not all the browsers comply with those standards very well. Troubleshooting tools to attempt to reconcile this can be found here. A recent filing from the browser wars can be found here.
An example of one of the areas of non-compliance is in the handling of transparency in 'PNG' images. There are many workarounds for this problem, and they all require workarounds that are implemented via some combination of CSS and javascript.
Even the fonts are different sizes (though a workaround for that is available here, and if I get anal enough, I may persue it!)
