A simple '5 Cs' checklist for reviewing requirements and other written material
A simple checklist that serves well for reviewing requirements and other written material follows:
- Is it clear?
- Is it concise?
- Is it complete?
- Is it consistent?
- Is it correct?
If all of these conditions are satisfied from the perspective of all stakeholders, all operational scenarios, all system states, and all environmental conditions, the item under review is likely to be of acceptable quality. If the item under review is subsequently determined to have not met expectations, this list can also be used to classify the associated gaps, and establish a pareto chart which describes which of these types is the most frequent root cause of these problems. Each of the corresponding checklist items can then be expanded in more detail, to aid in improved training, and developing refined approaches for addressing these types of problems in the future.
